This year’s Consumer Electronics Show was more enjoyable than ever for audiophiles thanks to high exhibitor participation and low attendee numbers (about the same as last year.) That meant attendees got lots of attention and demonstrations. This was in sharp contrast to two years ago and earlier, when getting demos in some rooms was virtually impossible due to the congestion.

The CES audiophile portion was located in the fabulous Venetian Hotel again, and The High End Show moved this year to the Flamingo, so we were able to walk between the two as was the case when both events were conducted at the Alexis Park and St. Tropez. This meant we didn’t need to waste time on shuttle buses, and there was no need to brave blustery weather between rooms. Acoustically, the new hotels are vastly superior thanks to larger rooms and more robust construction.

We talked to several exhibitors after the event and they all seemed pleased with the business prospects it had presented. They said they’d be back next year. We heard that exhibitor rooms were offered at half price close to the show’s commencement. That parallels our personal hotel room expenses.

I took 422 photos of the event which were edited down to the best 168 for this meeting. Amnon made extensive notes for your edification. We hope other CES attendees will augment our presentation.

We have a new venue for this meeting. Tim Ryan, SDMAG Member and founder of Simplifi Audio, now has a demonstration facility for his products at the west end of El Cajon. He has graciously volunteered it for our meeting on Saturday, January 30th (9 days from today) from 2 – 5PM. He’s even offered some DNM interconnects for a raffle. He’s also agreed
to sell some Adam speakers at his cost (the ones we liked so much last year.) Note: This is the same building where SDMAG member Kent Fuqua performs his magic mods and repairs.
