About the Guild
The San Diego Music and Audio Guild (SDMAG) was formed in the fall of 1992. Our objective is to present talks, auditions, or performances of interest to audio hobbyists, as well as to provide a friendly atmosphere to meet others with like interests. Guest presentations are made by designers, manufacturers, retailers, reviewers, or performers. An attempt is made to include music related programs in addition to those on audio components. We are quite informal so all meetings are casual. Beverages are served. Approximately 130 Guild members are registered on our mailing list.
Objectives
- To provide an opportunity for like-minded music and audio hobbyists to meet regularly in a casual, low-keyed atmosphere.
- To offer education through manufacturer and designer presentations, auditions, and tours.
- To encourage the interchange of ideas, questions, and experiences relating to recorded music, components, and system set up among fellow Guildmembers.
Organization
Any successful club is based upon the sharing of responsibilities among the membership to continue functioning. The following volunteer positions have been loosely defined for the Music and Audio Guild.
- Coordinator (AKA President) – elected position, responsible for the overall organization to ensure timely and relevant meetings are held, to make certain the other position tasks are fulfilled, and to appoint assistants who volunteer for support tasks.
- Program Assistants – Guildmembers (as many as are willing) who contact and schedule (with the Coordinator) guest speakers, tours, and auditions for meeting program topics.
- Guild Crier – Guildmember who writes and distributes meeting notices and other correspondence as necessary for meeting (computer expertise more than helpful).
- Doorman/Treasurer – Guildmember responsible for sign-in and dues collection at each meeting.
- Beverage Steward – Guildmember responsible for picking up and setting up liquid refreshments at meetings.
- Bouncer – Guildmember responsible for maintaining order at meetings, including seeing to chair set up and return (when needed) and orderly rotation of Guildmembers at the “sweet spot” seats during auditions.
